At the forefront of empowerment, mental health, human rights, and justice, our convention serves as a pivotal platform for fostering dialogue and action. Committed to uplifting the voices and experiences of the African Canadian youth, we aim to create a transformative space where ideas flourish and positive change takes root.

Our mission is to inspire and equip the next generation with the tools needed to navigate and contribute meaningfully to society. Through engaging discussions, informative sessions, and collaborative initiatives, we address crucial topics like empowerment, mental health awareness, and the pursuit of human rights and justice.

ABOUT

ABOUT AFROCANDF ​

Afro Canada Development Foundation (AFROCANDF ) is a non-partisan; Not-For Profit Organization registered in Canada. The foundation seeks to advance the lives of people of the African origin in terms of development, capacity building, reduced poverty, innovations support, cultures and African talent boost in both Canada and on the African Continent. Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most populous continent, after Asia. At about 30.3 million km² including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of Earth's total surface area and 20% of its land area. With 1.3 billion people as of 2018, it accounts for about 16% of the world's human population. Nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and approximately 60 percent of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35 and according to global economic experts, the continent is likely to emerge as the world’s biggest global market in the next 5 to 10 years to come as well as the world’s food basket.

 The African-Canadian community is the fastest growing ethnic minority in Canada. In 2001, it was the third largest minority group behind Chinese and South Asian populations. In 2012, the top ten sources of immigration from Africa to Canada were Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Tunisia, South Africa, DRC, and Somalia. In total, Canada accepted 33,988 immigrants from 48 African countries, a number that has been growing and accounts for 13% of the 257,887 immigrants who arrived in Canada in 2012. Immigrants from Africa primarily choose to settle in Manitoba, Quebec, and Ontario.

About Exhibition

The exhibition will be for both innovative ideas e.g. in entrepreneurship, technology etc. and talent in form of creative art, music, dance and drama. This platform will give young people a chance to show case their ideas and talents. At the end of each exhibition, we expect the exhibitors to;
  • transform young people’s ideas into concrete actions for positive change.
  • acquire partners, sponsors and investors for their unique ideas.
  • strengthen networks and partnerships between Canada and their respective home governments, youth-led organizations, academic institutions, civil society, private sector, media etc. to fully roll out their ideas after the convention.

Empower African Communities Grant ($2000)

  • African or Canadian youth between the ages of 15 and 25.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to empowering communities in Africa or Canada.
  • Strong leadership skills and involvement in initiatives promoting social change.
  • Academic excellence with a minimum 3.5 GPA requirement.
  • Provide a personal statement highlighting past involvement in community empowerment projects.
  • Academic achievements and financial need may also be considered.
  • 500 Word Essay outlining your vision for empowering African or Canadian communities and proposed strategies to achieve it.
APPLY

Health Advocate Scholarship ($2000)

  • African or Canadian youth pursuing studies or projects in health-related fields.
  • Open to African or Canadian youth aged 18-30.
  • Show a strong interest in promoting healthcare and improving health outcomes in Africa or Canada.
  • Academic achievement with a minimum 3.0 GPA requirement (applicable to students only).
  • Active involvement in healthcare initiatives or community health programs.
  • 500 Word Essay discussing your passion for improving healthcare outcomes in Africa or Canada and how you plan to contribute to the field.

Rights Champion Grant ($2000)

  • African or Canadian youth passionate about human rights and social justice.
  • Open to African or Canadian youth aged 18-38.
  • Demonstrated involvement in advocacy or activism for marginalized communities.
  • Display a dedication to promoting and protecting human rights in Africa or Canada.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills. 500 Word Essay highlighting your commitment to human rights, advocacy work (participation in human rights organizations, campaigns, or projects), and plans to promote justice in Africa or Canada.

Venture Forward Grant ($2000)

  • African or Canadian youth interested in entrepreneurship and venture capital.
  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial drive or a passion for venture capital and innovation.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset and experience (e.g., starting a business, participating in start-up programs). Submit a business plan or pitch deck for a potential venture or innovative idea.
  • 500 Word Essay outlining your entrepreneurial aspirations, your innovative ideas, and how you plan to contribute to the African or Canadian business landscape.
